Verizon Hacked Carrier Update for iPhone and iPad

Posted by Joe on May 29, 2013 at 4:30 PM

This is a guide to increase your data speeds on Verizon. This does not increase coverage so please don't be expecting that. Thanks!

Please note that these updates are no longer available. For the latest release, please click the link below.

iPhone 5 Users:

1. Plug your iPad into iTunes and backup the device so you won’t lose anything, just in case. ;)

2. Download the hacked carrier update here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/l7e4tnzjigwzdb0/Verizon_LTE_US_iPhone_14.1.ipcc

3. Once downloaded, you'll to go ahead and enable iTunes to accept custom carrier bundles, if it’s not already.

4. Windows users, you will need to open command prompt and type the following and enter it in:

       64 bit: "C:/Program Files (x86)/iTunes/iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1

       32 bit: "C:/Program Files/iTunes/iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1

Mac users you will need to open terminal and type the following and enter it in:

Mac: defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool true

5. After this has successfully been entered in, click on the tab for your iPad and click “Update” or “Check For Update” while holding down the Alt/Option key for Mac users and the Shift key for Windows users. Navigate to where you downloaded the hacked carrier update file, which will be named “ATT_US_iPad_14.1.ipcc” then select it and click Open. Now restart your device and enjoy faster speeds.

If you encounter any problems or wish to revert back just follow the "Revert" guide below.

Revert Guide:

1. Non-jailbroken users will need to navigate to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings and allow the device to reboot into iTunes then choose the Restore From Backup option in iTunes. That's all.

2. Jailbroken users will need to download the zip files below, unarchive it in iFile, and navigate to var/mobile/Library/Carrier bundles/iPhone or iPad and paste the original ATT_US.bundle folder in place of the hacked one. Once done, restart your device and you should be back to normal.

Tech talk:

This hack enables 1x Advanced and EVDO Rev. B on the iPhone 5 and iPad 3, 4, and mini as well as enhancing LTE data speeds. Though Verizon is limited to EVDO Rev. A, the device itself becomes more open to an increased amount of bandwidth thus allowing for better throughput of data and data connection. Throttling code was put in place to limit users to a certain amount of bandwidth on 3G and LTE but will now have a better opportunity for some faster speeds. This won't increase signal so don't expect it to like the AT&T version of this hack.

Disclaimer:

This hack does NOT guarantee that you will see any dramatic changes or any change at all as certain areas are simply limited because of population density, natural features that degrade signal, the traffic on a specific tower, and even the amount of spectrum the tower is limited to as not all LTE towers have been upgraded to 10MHz or more for higher bandwidth support. If you feel this hack has not helped you, we have provided a way back to defaults, if you choose to do so.

hey i have a huge question PLZ i was having a problem with my wifi, so i started troubleshooting the problem and i did the reverse hacked Verizon carrier update here: http://www.itweakios...phone-and-ipad

There is a reversal method on the bottom tof the page and it said for jailbreak users to simply put that new carrier bundle folder into var/mobile/Library/xx and now iTunes says i need a new one but i get errors when i try to update through iTunes, or if i try to do the hacked bundle again, also using iTunes. Nothing works.
When i extracted the .zip it gave me a folder named "Payload" then there is a folder inside that reads "Verizon_LTE_US.bundle"

can someone help me with this? I cant get the coding correct in command prompt on my windows pc. It's windows 7 64 bit. The command line starts c:\users/phan I tried copying and pasting the line above but it did not work. I also tried starting it with "cd" and it did not work. It says "the system cannot find the path specified". I know I'm typing it in wrong but how should it be done correctly? Thanks.

Looks like the hack knocks out the Personal Hotspot on AT&T Wireless on the iPad 3. After applying the patch, it worked well enough, but I lost the Personal Hotspot option from the settings app.

I'm going to try to call them and have them switch the data plan to something else and then switch it back to the 5Gb plan, as some other sites suggested, but if that doesn't work, I guess I'm back to restoring the iPad tomorrow. :( Gotta have the hotspot.

The terminal command for the MAC is:

defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool YES

And it works with Itunes 11.0.4.

I have a jailbroken iphone 5 running 6.1. When attempting to update carrier settings through iTunes after doing the command prompt step I am unable to choose .ipcc as the file type to search for. When I type it in myself I get a "unknown error (-27)" message. Thoughts? Is there a way to add it on the phone, say by way of SSH.

Answered my own question. Itunes 11.0.4 blocks the ability to do carrier testing i.e. change the file type to .ipcc. I just downloaded Itunes v11 and it worked flawlessly.

It works on any 6.x.x software but will not work if you had an update past version 14.1.

And this doesnt work if your carrier is updated higher then 14.1. If your on 14.2 it doesnt work unless u jailbreak and download 14.0 or 14.1 carrier bundle

this is interesting, i just found this page thanks to macrumors story. Testing my iATT iphone 5 here in white plains, ny, i get 33 down, 16 up. Then i connected to my verizon lte mifi and get 6 down, 6 up. Apparently i need the hack for the MIFI, not the phone! :)
